Robin Hawley comes to Team Hammer with an enormous amount of motorcycle wrenching and race experience under his belt. He became a dealership mechanic in 1973, got into amateur motocross and flat track racing himself, then started road racing in the early 1980s with WERA.
In 1990, Hawley became an engine builder/tuner for one of the teams competing against Team Hammer in endurance racing. He has tuned everything from front-running 250cc Grand Prix machines to four-stroke endurance bikes and everything in between. Hawley is also an avid musician.
With the encouragement of his grown sons, he joined Team Hammer and moved to Alabama to be Michael Barnes' Supersport Crew Chief in 2007. When Barnes suffered season-ending injuries at the fourth race of the season, Hawley teamed up with fill-in rider Martin Cardenas with spectacular results, and Hawley has continued to work with Colombian Cardenas ever since. In 2009, the Hawley-Cardenas pairing earned seven Daytona SportBike race wins and finished third in the Championship. For 2010, the winning combination of Hawley and Cardenas returns to M4 Monster Energy Suzuki with one ambitious goal: Win the 2010 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship.
