Team Suzuki Endurance won the ninth round of the 1997 WERA National Endurance Series, an 8-hour race at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. Regular team riders Tray Batey, Grant Lopez and Josh Hayes were joined by former lead rider Michael Martin, who was invited to ride with the team to give him a chance to win his 50th WERA National Endurance Series Event.
Batey, Lopez, Hayes and Martin turned 367 laps on the 1.8-mile Texas World road course, covering 660.6 miles for an average speed of 82.5 mph despite a 30-minute red flag period when the race was halted to allow officials to clear away crash debris.
Team Suzuki Endurance’s 1997 GSXR1100 crossed the finish line seven laps ahead of second place. The team has won eight out of the nine series races so far this season and has already locked up the WERA National Endurance Championship for the 13th time. The final round of the 1997 WERA National Endurance Series is a 4-hour at Road Atlanta on October 10.
