Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s Grant Lopez finished eighth in the 32nd Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, a through-the-streets race held annually in the Portugese colony on the south coast of China.
Lopez qualified 12th fastest in his first race outside the country, riding a GSXR750 Suzuki. In the race, Lopez steadily worked his way up from 13th in the opening laps, passing two competitors to move into eighth in the closing laps.
Macau reverts to Chinese control in 1999 and the Macau Grand Prix is unlikely to be held again, according to event organizers.
