Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s young Ben Spies took eighth in the 750cc Supersport race at Sears Point despite riding with a broken wrist.

Spies, 16, broke and dislocated his left wrist when he crashed his motocross bike four weeks ago. The injury forced Spies to miss the Formula USA race at Willow Springs. But after consulting with Dr. Art Ting and racer Dr. Dave Kieffer, Spies was able to race at Willow Springs with a special brace on his wrist, the brace being built by Kieffer.

Adding to Spies’ difficult task was the fact that Spies had never ridden at Sears Point, and that he missed Thursday practice on the advice of Dr. Kieffer.

Spies’ eighth-place finish put him third in 750cc Supersport points, with 57 points. The points leader has 59 points and the second-place rider has 58 points.
