Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki headed directly from two days (Wednesday and Thursday, August 11-12) of Michelin tire testing at VIR in Virginia to a Formula USA race at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, arriving late Thursday night. The team skipped practice on Friday, giving mechanics time to work on the bikes, and then rolled out for practice Saturday morning. Scheduling problems for the organizers saw Steve Rapp get 10 laps of practice on his Superstock GSX-R750 and Vincent Haskovec get 7 laps of practice on his Formula Xtreme GSX-R600 prior to the start of qualifying, but that didn’t keep them from setting fast time and taking pole for the F-USA Formula Sportbike (Rapp) and F-USA Superbike (Haskovec) races.

On Sunday morning, Haskovec got 3 laps of practice and Rapp got 5 laps of practice. Yet when it came time to race, Haskovec quickly took the lead and rapidly pulled away to win the 17-lap Superbike race by a wide margin on his GSX-R600. Rapp did the same in the 17-lap Formula Sportbike race on his GSX-R750.

The weekend at Barber provided the team with valuable race-distance testing, and gave the riders a chance to win some money and cool trophies as well.
