Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s Tray Batey finished second in final Formula USA Series points with teammate Grant Lopez fourth following the season-ending event at Pocono Internatinal Speedway in Lond Pond, Pennsylvania.

Batey led the series points going into Pocono but ran off the track twice during the first of two Formula USA races, accidently hitting his Suzuki GSXR1100’s kill switch and losing about 20 seconds in the second incident. Batey charged up through the field but finished 11th in the race. In the second race, Batey finished sixth with an overheating engine.

Lopez finished sixth and fifth on his 840cc Suzuki GSXR750. In his debut on an 840cc Suzuki GSXR750, Josh Hayes finished 12th and 10th.

But Hayes won the 103 HP class race and Championship at Pocono, jumping into the lead on his Suzuki GSXR600 and never looking back. Hayes also finished third in the 126 HP class race, finishing the season second in series points, again riding his Suzuki GSXR600.

The event at Pocono marked 1996 Formula USA Champion Batey’s final ride with Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki. Batey announced his plans to retire from Formula USA competition earlier in the year.
