Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s John Hopkins won the Formula Xtreme race at Road Atlanta, using the power of his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to blast past the competition.

The race was run in two parts, red-flagged due to a crash and then postponed by a thunderstorm after seven laps on Saturday, then restarted on Sunday.

The restart saw Hopkins take the lead and hold off all challengers, crossing the finish line first and recording his first Formula Xtreme victory.

His teammate Grant Lopez, who suffered a separated shoulder in a crash in practice on Friday, toughed it out and finished eighth, maintaining second in series point standings, just four points out of the lead after two of 10 races.

In 750cc Supersport, Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s Ben Spies finished a strong third and moved into a tie in series point standings, after three of 11 scheduled races.

In 600cc Supersport, Hopkins finished seventh and is now 12th in points. Lopez skipped the 600cc Supersport race due to his injured shoulder, and to concentrate his strength on the Formula Xtreme race.
