Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s John Hopkins was third-fastest on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 in Friday qualifying for Formula Xtreme at Road Atlanta, turning a lap in 1:25.458 on race tires. Pole was set at 1:24.937 and second-fastest was set at 1:25.076, both times on qualifying tires.
Hopkins’ teammate Ben Spies was second-fastest in 750cc Supersport, qualifying at 1:27.143, on race tires.
Grant Lopez, injured in Friday morning practice and initially thought to have a broken arm, was found to have a dislocated shoulder. Lopez may use a provisional start and attempt to race, looking to gain some points for the Championship. Lopez is currently second in series points, based on his second-place finish at Sears Point two weeks ago.
