Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s Ben Spies won the AMA 750cc Supersport race at Pikes Peak International Raceway on Saturday, August 25, taking the lead on the first lap and marching to victory, unchallenged. The win, Spies’ first, moved Spies into second in 750cc Supersport points.

In Formula Xtreme, Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki’s John Hopkins moved into a tie for the points lead with a calculated fifth place while the former solo points leader finished 19th with mechanical problems. Hopkins’ teammate, Grant Lopez, was sixth, and is third in series points.

Immediately after the Formula Xtreme race on Saturday, Lopez flew to Pocono and took a provisional start for Sunday’s Formula USA Unlimited Superbike races. Lopez, the defending Formula USA Unlimited Superbike Champion, DNF the first race with a shifting problem and charged from the back of the grid to fifth in the second race.

Back at Pikes Peak, Hopkins crashed in Sunday’s 600cc Supersport race and retired.
