M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com Suzuki’s David Anthony endured a difficult weekend of MotoAmerica Supersport competition at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Participating in a charged atmosphere in front of a massive crowd alongside the MotoGP World Championship was supposed to prove a highlight of the season, but the weekend just didn’t play out in the Australian’s favor. He opened the weekend ranked 14th in Thursday’s wet practice, and fought his way up to a still-uncharacteristic 9th in qualifying at 1:41.644 on Friday.
Despite limited track time to turn things around, Anthony had a good feeling come race day and expected to charge his way up through the field on his M4 Sportbike TrackGear.com Suzuki GSX-R600. Unfortunately, he was plagued with extreme front-end chatter during the contest and was forced to take his bike into the pits at the end of lap 6. A red flag a couple laps later allowed him to rejoin the field for the six-lap sprint to the end, but the problem remained and he only made one additional circulation before calling it a weekend.
“There’s nothing much good to say about the weekend,” Anthony conceded. “We struggled all weekend. We struggled with the set-up and I struggled to learn the track. I thought we were catching up and would be in better shape for the race but we encountered an issue with the bike.”
Despite the tough weekend, Anthony remains ranked fourth the in the 2015 MotoAmerica Supersport championship race with only the September 11-13 New Jersey Motorsports Park season finale left to contest.
He said, “I’m really looking forward to NJMP. I’ve done well there in the past and all the issues we hit this weekend will be behind us. I always seem to end the season on a high note and I’m planning on doing that again this time around.”
